How to pass the Delaware knowledge test

  1. Read the handbook. Every question comes from the official Delaware manuals; the handbook page links to the agency's own copies.
  2. Practice test by test. Each numbered test mixes Delaware law with the national road rules, like the real exam.
  3. Read every explanation. Especially for answers you got right by guessing.
  4. Simulate the real exam on the category page when you pass the tests comfortably.

Delaware written test format

Test Questions Pass mark Minimum age
Car 32 26 correct (6 mistakes allowed) 16 years
Motorcycle 25 20 correct (5 mistakes allowed) 18 years for the test based path; riders under 18 must complete the Basic Rider Course with parental consent
CDL 50 40 correct (10 mistakes allowed) 18 years

Car. The DMV written test page states that the Class D knowledge test has 32 questions and that 26 must be answered correctly. The general FAQ page still shows an older figure of 30 questions and 24 correct answers.

Motorcycle. The motorcycle knowledge test has 25 questions and requires 20 correct answers. Riders 18 and older may waive the written and road tests by completing an approved rider education course.

CDL. Delaware law sets 18 as the minimum age for a CDL. The DMV does not publish the number of questions on the general knowledge test; the value shown assumes the standard 50-question test scored at the federal 80 percent threshold and is listed as unconfirmed.
